WINERY HISTORY
Founded in 2013, London Cru is Roberson’s very own winery. As London’s first urban winery, the operation began its life sourcing grapes from growers across Europe’s most illustrious wine regions. A few years on, the team made the decision to shift to a distinctly English spirit, exclusively sourcing fruit from vineyards across Sussex, Essex, and Kent for years. Owned by wine industry legend Cliff Roberson, London Cru has been run by Alex Hurley since its conversion to English grapes in 2018. Hailing from the Bellarine Peninsula in Australia, Alex arrived at London Cru after winemaking studies in France and Italy and stints at GD Vajra in Italy, Le Grappin in Burgundy, and Gusbourne Estate in Kent. Whilst the surroundings might be historic (located in an old gin distillery), innovation is at the core of London Cru.
VITICULTURE & WINEMAKING
This past year marked a monumental milestone for London Cru, as we celebrated a decade of operation with the purchase of an estate vineyard in West Sussex. Just forty-five minutes from our winery in Fulham, the vineyard grows Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Bacchus. The fruit from this site will give London Cru full control of their mission to make the best still and sparkling wines in the UK. We also work with celebrated growers around England, hand picking all the fruit and transporting it to our London winery within a matter of hours.
The wines are uncompromisingly quality-focused, and critically acclaimed.
