The Holtermann vineyard is now squarely in its prime, having reached nineteen years of age this vintage. Offering a compelling mixture of blood orange and pomegranate flavors, this is a wonderful Pinot that perfectly expresses the essence of the West Sonoma Coast. Accented with hints of forest floor, mint, licorice and violets, and assembled with the purity and brightness of its high natural acidity, this is coastal Pinot Noir at its best.

94/100 - The 2021 Pinot Noir Holtermann Vineyard is one of the most expressive and engaging Pinots I have tasted from Alma Fria. Intensely floral and spiced, the 2021 has real dimension to match its dynamic, vibrant personality. Crushed red/purplish berry fruit, blood orange, chalk, mint and white pepper all race through the 2021, a wine that offers tons of West Sonoma Coast energy, but with more fruit density than in the past. This is a superb showing. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Vineyards and Winemaking

Vineyard location: Crafted from grapes grown in the Holtermann vineyard (53%) and those of West Sonoma Coast friends (47%), located in the West Sonoma Coast appellation.
Farming practices: Farmed using sustainable and organic practices. The vineyard is dry-farmed, and the grapes are handpicked to ensure the highest quality fruit is used in the winemaking process.
Climate: Cool, coastal and heavily influenced by the Pacific Ocean. The region experiences moderate temperatures and abundant fog, which creates a long, slow growing season for the grapes.
Harvest: Handpicked in early September, at optimal ripeness. The fruit was carefully sorted to ensure only the best grapes were used in the wine.
Aging: Aged for 10 months in French oak barrels, 35% of which were new.
Bottling: Bottled in August 2022, after undergoing a light filtration.

Tasting Notes

Aromas: Highly perfumed, with intense aromas of ripe red raspberry, black cherry, and tangerine pith. Complemented by hints of sappy fir needles, mint, and white pepper.
Taste: Well integrated and precisely balanced. Bright notes of red raspberry and black cherry combine with a vibrant acidity and a hint of tangerine pith.
Finish: Silky and persistent, with a long finish.

Food Pairing Suggestions
Highly versatile and pairs well with a range of dishes, from roasted poultry and pork to grilled salmon or tuna. Its bright acidity and fruit flavours make it a great match for earthy mushroom dishes or pasta with a tomato-based sauce.
Cellaring Potential
This wine is drinking beautifully now, but can also be aged for up to 5-7 years.
