La Spirale is Bergström's newest vineyard, found in the Ribbon Ridge AVA just a stones throw away from their Le Pre du Col Vineyard and within sight of their estate winery. La Spirale's name is taken from the French word for 'vortex,' a symbol of life, creation, and the natural formative forces that guide the work at Bergström. This wine is like a succulent and juicy bowl of fresh fruits sprinkled with flower blossoms that makes you salivate long after you have tasted the wine.
92/100 - The 2021 Pinot Noir La Spirale is scented of raspberries, blackberries, lavender and dried herbs with botanical nuances. The light-bodied palate is delicate, chalky and fresh with spicy fruit and a long, floral finish. - Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate
94/100 - The 2021 Pinot Noir La Spirale is perfumed to the max, with an array of violets and roses evolving into delicate black cherry in an air of chalk dust and sweet smoke. Lifted and refined with cooling acidity, the 2021 doesn't miss a beat, coming across both finessed yet also sapid with slowly saturating masses of ripe dark red fruits. This cakes the palate with primary concentration and minerals, lingering impossibly long and structured yet perfectly fresh. There's tremendous cellar potential here. - Eric Guido, Vinous
17.5+/20 - Pale ruby in colour. Expressive on the nose – dusty, loamy, sweet-cherry fruit with dried orange peel, cola and rose oil. Ethereal lightness on the palate – thirst-quenching acidity with persistent, velvety fine tannin and a long finish. - Samantha Cole-Johnson, JancisRobinson.com
93/100 - The newest estate site for Bergström, La Spirale, planted in 1997, the site features a melange of 14 different marine sedimentary soil types. A feral aromatic profile honing in on notes of turned earth, ripe blueberries and a herbal touch of bay leaf. The palate is lively and lush, focused on red and black fruits, savoury anise and mint, and a touch of turned earthen minerality leads to a peppery spice-laden finish. - Clive Pursehouse, Decanter
95/100 - This is bright and succulent with redcurrants and cranberries with hints of thyme, some nutmeg and fragrant blue flowers. Some flinty minerality, too. It is medium- to full-bodied with impressive tension, freshly cut cherries and blueberries, and tangy, citrus-like acidity. It is vibrant and fresh with notes of spicy herbs to close. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold. - James Suckling
On the nose, a complex floral bouquet and notes of sweet spice jump from the glass, while savoury notes and hints of minerality mingle with the red fruit aromas.
On the palate, this wine is youthful and fresh, practically bursting at the seams with flavours of fresh raspberry and wild strawberries. The finish is long with stellar sapidity.
