95/100 - The 2021 Grüner Veltliner Black Edition was grown on the gravelly loam and loess soils of the Maxendorf vineyard. A serene note of fern on the nose is all the wine is willing to give away for the moment. The palate is creamy and shows both nutty emollience and slight stone fruit ripeness—an intriguing combination. A certain Mirabelle juiciness pervades, but the wine’s contours are defined by bright lemon freshness. While this has concentration and body, it retains tone and tension, hinting at gorgeous pepperiness somewhere at its core. Wait for this.
