Graham Tatomer is widely regarded as the United States' pre-eminent winemaker in the realm of Germanic varieties, and this superb off-dry riesling is a resounding endorsement of that fact. Sourced from the famed Kick-On Ranch vineyard of California's Sta. Rita Hills region, the unique climatic conditions of the 2021 vintage fostered the development of high amounts of Botrytis, making it the perfect year for a Spätlese-style Riesling. While not technically allowed to use the term, Graham circumvents these rules by using the numeric code for the term. Given the tiny production quantity of this wine, Roberson are the only wine merchant in the world currently offering this superb dessert wine.
94/100 - Sourced from the Clone 239 section of Kick-on Ranch, the 2021 Riesling Kick-on Ranch SP8TL3S3 opens with a delicately exotic and waxy nose evenly delineated between orchard blossoms, tropical fruits and bright spice aromas. Much like the nose, it is simultaneously lusciously sweet yet gently refined, finishing with an understated, simmering complexity that gently builds in the glass. As with the entire range of Tatomer Rieslings, this is the only thing quite like it in California, and it does a fantastic job of expressing local vineyards through a refreshingly different lens. - Matthew Luczy, Wine Advocate
