This is an excellent Grand Cru Chablis from one of the region's most acclaimed producers, Jean-Paul and Benoît Droin.

94+/100 - From bottle, Droin's 2017 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos confirms its status as the domaine's finest wine this year, unwinding in the glass with a complex but reserved bouquet of honeyed apples, fresh peach, confit lemon, almond paste and a stable framing of oak. On the palate, it's full-bodied, deep and layered, with a dense, tight-knit and blocky core, racy acids and a saline finish. This will demand some patience. - William Kelley, Wine Advocate

98/100 - A wine of exotic richness, off the charts intensity and thrilling beauty, the 2017 Chablis  Les Clos Grand Clos is utterly mesmerizing from the very first taste. It is also clearly one of the wines of the vintage. The sheer density, explosive energy and flamboyance are not exactly typical of either Clos of 2017, but they do make for a Chablis that delivers maximum sensory overload. What a wine! - Antonio Galloni, Vinous

18/20 - Subtle but already complex on the nose. Spicy, subtly oaky in its creamy texture and spice. Excellent balance between richness of fruit and tangy citrus acidity. Very long indeed. - Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com

95-96/100 - Three parcels running diagonally up from west to east. The complexity is staggering, fruits from citrusy grapefruit and lemon to white and yellow stone fruits. Some honey and nougat, as well as a huge amount of underlying mineral. A majestic palate that is grand and complete. The mineralogy is subdued by expressive fruit for now. It will reveal in time. Freshness with concentration in 2017. Drink this after 2025 for the most complete impression. - James Suckling

Jean-Paul et Benoît Droin is one of the oldest domaines in Chablis, dating back to at least the 1600s. Benoît Droin is the talented winemaker at the helm, and his consistently excellent whites are gaining greater recognition with each vintage. It was his father who put the estate on the quality map, a reputation that Benoît is more than continuing.

The majority of their vines grow on the important Kimmeridgian limestone soils which define Chablis. Judicious use of oak barrels and a commitment to extracting the crisp minerality which Chardonnay does so brilliantly in each bottle is a testament to Benoît’s skill as a wine grower and a winemaker.
