Domaine de Trévallon is a winery that needs little introduction, having long since established itself as one of France's premier cult wineries. Founded by Éloi Dürrbach in the 1970s, his early commitment to sustainable viticulture and minimal intervention winemaking helped prove that Provence was home to more than simply sub-standard bulk wine. Made famous through the production of their red wine, the 80s saw white grapes take their place on the estate, destined for use in one of France's most unique white wines. A blend of Marsanne, Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, and small percentages of other grapes, it is a complex and age-worthy white singing with notes of stone fruit and spice. Savoury yet lively and acidic, this is a wine deserving of a spot in any collectors' cellar.
92/100 - Aromas of cream and white pepper are still restrained, while on the palate there are notes of sweet white peach, perfumed florals, spice, ginger, crunchy green apples and fine citrus acidity. Rather than creating a heady alcoholic wine, the hot vintage resulted in a block in the vines' maturation, resulting in lower alcohol and extra freshness, leaving a combination of both power and delicacy, with nicely integrated oak serving more as a backbone rather than dominating the fruit. - Elizabeth Gabay MW, Decanter
On the nose, notably complex and characterful aromatics of apricot, white peach, nectarine, mint, dried flowers, and chamomile alongside a reductive touch of flint.
On the palate, very inviting with a fine, appealingly grainy structure supported by a clean throughline of acidity. Powerful thanks to its year long maturation in French oak, this white retains more than enough freshness to make it enjoyable now or years down the line. Harmonious and delicious, it bursts with flavours of lemon, white peach, flowers, ginger, and spice.
