This is an attractive and alluring Syrah from one of California's most highly regarded and pioneering wineries, Arnot-Roberts. An excellent chance to try a distinctly West Coast Syrah, this red is composed of grapes from vineyard sites across the Golden State.

92/100 - The 2022 Syrah California comes from vineyards on the Sonoma Coast, plus the Rancho Arroyo Grande Vineyard in San Luis Obispo County. It was fermented entirely with whole clusters and matured for 10 months in used French oak and concrete. It has bright scents of blackcurrant, white pepper, olive tapenade, prosciutto and floral hints. The medium-bodied palate is chalky and vibrant with herbal black fruit and a long, savory finish. The Syrah grapes for this wine are sourced from across the state. 57% of the fruit comes from the Rancho Arroyo Grande Vineyard, on the coast of San Luis Obispo. The rest of the vineyards are from various parcels along the wide-ranging Sonoma Coast, with 24% from Baker Lane Vineyard, 12% from Solas Vineyard, and 7% from Clary Ranch.
Each site is harvested and vinified separately, before being blended together to achieve optimal character. The wine ages 10 months in a combination of neutral French barrels (53%), 14hL French foudre (12%), and 40hL concrete tank (35%).
