With a family history in Chassagne-Montrachet dating back sixteen generations, it is fair to say that Thomas Morey is no stranger to the Chardonnay grape. In this wine, he uses what is, perhaps, the greatest Chardonnay fruit in the world to craft a wine of stunning purity, elegance, and finesse. Structured yet ethereal, this is a wine defined by its freshness and alluring notes of pear, white peach, citrus pith, and white flowers. Rich and full-bodied, this is a truly stunning white wine that should age for years to come.
94-96/100 - Picked 5th September with a small team. Mid lemon yellow. A mix of discretion and major intensity. Now some peach notes as well, probably good to have gone in early. A fine guardsman-like structure, with a bank of white fruit behind and excellent balancing acidity. A light salinity but the richness of white fruit coursing over the top is more in evidence. On the palate, structured and concentrated with flavours of pear, ripe white stone fruits, and oak spice, alongside a distinct streak of minerality. A brisk lemon-like acidity frames the palate, leading to a long finish that echoes with hints of mint, marzipan, and white flowers.
