Sandhi rank amongst the most highly regarded and influential wineries in California, founded and run by the pioneering duo of Sashi Moorman and Rajat Parr. Renowned for their work in shaping the 'New Wine' movement in California during the early-mid 200s, they have achieved widespread acclaim for their work in Santa Barbara's windswept Sta. Rita Hills region. This Chardonnay is sourced from the region's most acclaimed and historical vineyard, Sanford & Benedict, where Burgundy vines were first cultivated in this cool, wind-swept region of California's Central Coast. Effortlessly fresh and mineral as always, this wine truly underscores the unicity and greatness of its region.
97/100 - A great, distinctive wine that balances chalky, minerally and nervy aspects with lush, ripe pears, toasted almonds and hints of marzipan. It's quite tight and steely in texture, holding those intricate flavors with a firm feel and a long finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2028. - Jim Gordon, JamesSuckling.com
94/100 - The 2022 Chardonnay Sanford & Benedict is true to this site's composed elegance and nuance, showing a mélange of orchard fruits, bright baking spices and citrus blossoms. The palate is generous yet measured, with a faintly enveloping texture that seamlessly unwinds into a beautiful, refined finish, highlighting the vineyard's river rock stoniness. While not the most flashy or intense iteration of this historic site, its classiness fits right into the Sandhi roster. - Matthew Luczy, Wine Advocate
94/100 - The 2022 vintage saw little rain, with heat spikes contributing to a riper fruit character. Despite a warmer than average growing environment, the Sandhi Sanford and Benedict Vineyard Chardonnay exhibits a delightful nose fragrant with white peach blossom, ripe sweet lemon, and pastry dough—medium in body with flavours of yellow apple, lemon and fresh cream. On the richer side due to, 10 months of fermentation in oak barrels followed by another six months in an anaerobic environment contributed to creamy texture and body. - Vanessa Rason, Decanter
On the palate, more fleshy and fruity than the nose, leaning into flavours of apricot and green orchard fruit with bright, saline nuances and a gentle touch of well-integrated oak that's more texture than taste.
