The Saget family are renowned for their work in France's Loire region, owning and operating a number of estates producing wines in the region's varied terroir. This Chinon rouge comes from one of their newest creations, Les Éclaireurs, a small-production label run by brothers Arnaud and Laurent, sons of the current proprietor. Focused on originality and creativity, the brothers seek out lesser-known wines in the Loire they feel deserve a bit more attention. This is their Chinon, a wonderfully crunchy red wine made entirely from Cabernet Franc. Aged for just 9 months in stainless steel, this is a fruit forward red wine distinguished by its fresh flavours of red berries, alongside touches of the savoury undergrowth and spice typical of Cabernet Franc. A delicious wine and, at only £23.80, perfect for weeknight enjoyment.
On the palate, juicy and well-balanced with a blend of red and black fruit flavours (raspberry, ripe wild strawberry, blackberry). Structured yet lively, the smooth and velvety tannins of this red contribute to a finish of significant length and complexity.
