Saget La Perrière

PRODUCER: Clair de Brumes, Domaine des Grandes Espérances, Saget La Perrière
REGION: Loire, France
FOUNDER/WINEMAKER: Jean-Louis, Arnaud, & Laurent Saget

The Loire Valley is one of France's great wine regions, stretching from the windswept shores near Nantes to Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé just south of Orléans. With this expanse encompassing more than 80 different appellations, there are hundreds of wineries dotting the landscape along France's longest river. Our favourite new find from this region is Saget La Perrière, a family-run company operating seven different wineries across the Loire. Producing stunning Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, and Crémant de Loire, we're delighted to welcome Saget to our portfolio.

WINERY HISTORY
The Saget's are no stranger to grape growing and winemaking, with the origins of their estate in Pouilly-sur-Loire dating back to 1790. For the majority of the family's history, the Sagets were a relatively minor producer, crafting little more than a subsistence level of of wine from a number of small parcels in this corner of the Loire. The family's story would change dramatically with the ascension of 9th generation winemaker Jean-Louis Saget in the 1980s. A forward-thinking and innovative vigneron, Jean-Louis made the seminal decision to expand the family's holdings across the Loire Valley, particularly with his purchase of Sancerre's Domaine de la Perrière in 1996. Close to thirty years on, the family continue to develop their portfolio, now owning vineyards in Pouilly-Fumé, Pouilly-sur-Loire, Sancerre, Touraine, Chinon, Vouvray, Anjou, and Muscadet.

Having transformed his family from small-scale vine growers to one of the Loire's most respected producers, Jean-Louis has now taken a step back from the company. His sons, Arnaud and Laurent, now helm the ship, continuing their father's legacy of combining tradition with innovation. Their guiding mission is to express both a deep respect for the unique heritage of the Loire and a contemporary ethos anchored in environmental responsibility, terroir expression, and approachable winemaking.

VITICULTURE & WINEMAKING
As with all of Roberson's producers, the viticultural and winemaking style of Saget La Perrière is deeply rooted in careful stewardship of the environment. Each of their numerous estate vineyards is certified to the highest level of France's environmental certifications, with an emphasis placed on biodiversity, soil health, and low-impact farming practices. Exact viticultural practices vary with each site, tailored to the unique terroir of each region, though universal practices like cover cropping, the elimination of chemical treatments, a lack of mechanisation, and preise canopy management optimise ripeness and aromatic purity. Harvest is carried out nearly entirely by hand, further protecting the fruit and vines.

Each estate operates its own cellar independently, allowing the team to vinify according to the specific characteristics of the site and vintage. Minimal intervention winemaking is the name of the game, with fermentations carried out by native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Many white cuvées undergo extended ageing on their lees, sometimes up to nine months, building texture and complexity without the use of oak. Red wines, like the Pulsation Cabernet Franc, are vinified with careful extraction to preserve freshness and achieve soft, approachable tannins.

In short, minimal intervention practices, careful site-by-site blending, and sustainable practices yield an expressive and balanced style that reflects both the diversity of Loire Valley terroirs and the estate’s long-standing commitment to quality.
