Thomas Morey is no stranger to Chassagne-Montrachet, being the 10th-generation in a centuries long lineage of Côte de Beaune winemakers to call the commune home. This 1er Cru comes from the famed Clos Saint-Jean vineyard, found on the hillside above Chassagne-Montrachet. Markedly flower, Morey's Clos Saint-Jean white sings with bright citrus notes and touches of crisp white orchard fruit. Sleek yet intense, this excellent Chardonnay is one of the best we've tried from this site in years.
On the palate, medium-weight flavours with a marked salinity open before an impressively complex and long finish. A superb example of Clos Saint-Jean.
Enjoyable now, this white will reward careful cellaring of at least five years.
Delicious as an apéritif, you might also try this Chardonnay alongside crab and avocado salad, seared sea bass, or herb-crusted halibut.
