Château de Tourettes is French wine icon Jean-Marie Guffens-Heynen's project in the Southern Rhône. After growing discontent with the vacillating nature of Burgundy in the late 90s, he and his wife Maine decided to not only redefine this estate, but also showcase the untapped potential of the Luberon region. This is his Grand Blanc, a Chardonnay sourced from the estate's finest plots on the Plateau de l'Aigle, a higher altitude region in the Luberon where cool-nights and limestone soils yield whites which stand out for their intensity and freshness. This is a superb Chardonnay with plenty of purity and mineral tension, indicating the potential of this region to produce prestigious, age-worthy Chardonnay.

On the palate, it opens with all the creamy-textured richness one desires from the South of France, alongside flavours of pear, Golden Delicious apples, sweet baking spice, a lovely hint of flinty reduction. Mouth-filling and juicy yet balanced by a mineral streak and enticing acidity, this is a hearty, open-textured Chardonnay.
