This White Rioja from the legendary Bodega is a slightly developed pale gold colour with fresh and aromatic notes. It is complex and highly developed with fruity aromas and bouquets.
95/100 - The 2014 Viña Gravonia Blanco always smells of the cellar with some mushroomy aromas and flavors, and it's very classical, with 12.5% alcohol, more vibrant than the 2015 I tasted next to it. To María José López de Heredia, Gravonia has to be very fresh with citrus freshness and some nuttiness but without the bitterness of the aged Tondonia, which they compare with the Carbonieux and such wines from Graves. These are ancient vines and the grapes are pristine. 25,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2021. They bottled later because of COVID-19, and the extra time was spent mostly in oak vat but maybe some in barrel... - Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate
95/100 - One of the grand old names of Rioja, López de Heredia is unusual for being equally, if not more, renowned for its whites as its reds. In either colour, its wines are deeply traditional, with, in this case, long ageing of four years in barrel. Made from 100% Viura, it’s nutty, golden in colour, but wonderfully fluent, with flashes of brightness like sunlight on a teak dashboard. Founded in 1877 by Don Rafael López de Heredia y Landeta, Snr López established the legendary Tondonia vineyards on the alluvial slopes overlooking the River Ebro on the cusp of the Alta and Alavesa wine sub-regions. A visionary and a romantic, his aspirations were impressive- for not just his wines but architecturally as well. The Lopez de Heredia portfolio extends over four autonomous vineyard areas, of which Tondonia is both the largest and the most famous. The other three are Cubillo, Bosconia and Gravonia; each with distinctive terroir and aspect and differing styles of wine.
