Few winemakers in Napa can approximate the intimate connection to the land which John Kongsgaard and son, Alex, possess. Fifth and sixth generation Napans respectively, their winery - founded by John in the 1990s - has become arguably America's greatest producer of Chardonnay. Organically and sustainably farmed, their minimal touch in the cellar accentuates the innate beauty of their fruit, yielding powerful, elegant wines that showcase the unique characteristics of their grapes and the Napa terroir. Imported to the UK exclusively by Roberson, allocations of this wine are extremely limited and available only during select times.
On the nose, delightful aromas of orchard fruit, mint, lemon confit, and tangerine oil open the show. After some time in glass, rich aromatics of crème brûlée arise.
On the palate, flavours of marzipan and nectarine dart around. Notably broad yet elegantly composed, there is a distinctly saline touch the long and luxurious finish. Pretty floral and tropical accents grace the finish of this superb California Chardonnay.
