A standout wine with a notable connection to the prestigious Léoville Las Cases. A prominent Cru Bourgeois estate in the Northern Médoc, Chateau Potensac has 50 hectares under vine on the typical gravel and red-clay soils of Bordeaux. This vintage, earning high praise from critics, is a testament to its quality and heritage. With a Merlot-dominant blend, it brings a rich and accessible character to the table. The wine strikes a perfect balance between vibrant fruit flavours and refreshing elegance. It's a great example of what the Médoc can offer – sophistication without pretense. For those who appreciate a wine that delivers both top-notch quality and good value, the 2015 Château Potensac is a choice that's hard to overlook.
THE PRODUCER
Château Potensac, steered by Jean-Hubert Delon, is a hidden gem in the Médoc, mirroring the excellence of its famed relative, Léoville Las Cases. Rooted in gravel and clay soils, this estate masterfully crafts wines that echo the Médoc's spirit. Known for striking a fine balance between tradition and modernity, Potensac offers wines that are robust, nuanced, and a true reflection of their terroir. It's a go-to for those who seek Bordeaux finesse without the fuss.
in the press
"One of the showpieces of the Médoc, this structured and firm wine has strong Cabernet flavours that give both dry tannins and juicy black currant fruits. Still youthful, this balanced wine is likely to age well. Drink from 2018." 90 pts, Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast
"From the Delon family, owners of Leoville Las Cases in Saint Julien and Nenin in Pomerol, this is usually a reliable wine. It has good minerality, deep blackcurrant and cherry fruit, medium body and a nice, spicy, earthy mouthfeel. The finish is quite good, and the wine capable of lasting up to a decade." Robert M. Parker

“Under the same ownership as Léoville Las Cases, Potensac is a consistent and well made wine. The nose is restrained, but there’s no lack of fresh blackberry and blackcurrant fruit aromas. Mediumbodied, it’s lively and bright, with some good concentration and surprising finesse for the Médoc. The finish is quite long and although this is accessible now, it should also age well as the balance is excellent.”

“One might have expected Potensac to have produced an intimidating wine in this fine vintage, but it’s actually quite accessible and fluid. The nose is sweet and ripe, with elegant cherry and blackcurrant aromas. The tannins are firm but ripe, giving grip, but there’s complexity and spice too. Assertive and long.”
Stephen Brook- Decanter
A clarity and transparency to this pretty red with currant, lemon-peel and lemon-grass character. Full body, very fine tannins and a pretty texture. Precise wine. Drink or hold.

One of Jean-Hubert Delon’s favourite tricks is to slip Potensac into blind tastings, such is its ageing potential. This is more forward than some recent vintages, with supple tannins, grassy fruit and well integrated tannins, but could still surprise a few people. Drink: 2020-25
92 pts Tim Atkin
With high-density planting and soils like Saint-Estèphe this is a great terroir and with old vines (40 years old) this is the reason why this wine is so delicious. Quite forward and very bright with typical swagger and density of cassis this is a brilliant wine. A little rounder than 2014 but I love this style equally because the 2014 had more obviously classical tannins.
17+ pts Matthew Jukes
The 2015 Potensac is gorgeous. Dark red cherry, plum, spice, new leather and licorice abound in this racy, voluptuous Médoc from the Delon family. Dark red cherry, mocha, plum, spice and sweet floral notes grace the racy, silky finish. The 2015 is a lovely Potensac. The blend is 45% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon and 17% Cabernet Franc.
