95/100 - 1995 was a warmer vintage of lower yields from poor fruit set. The result is a relatively generous Georges de Latour Private reserve with lower acidity and a rich, opulent fruit profile. Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged for 22 months in 100% new oak (55% French and 45% American), the 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve Georges de Latour has a medium to deep brick color with expressive dried blackberries, Black Forest cake and crème de cassis notes plus hints of cigar box, bouquet garni and coffee beans. Full-bodied (the alcohol is 13.9%), concentrated, firm and grainy, the palate delivers loads of relatively youthful fruit, with seamless freshness, finishing long and spicy. 13,000 cases were made. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate

Smells elderly – gently senescent. Truffles and loam and a little floral; delicate and charming but no fruit left. The tannins are oddly soft and astringent at the same time. A fascinating glimpse into the past, but I'd drink up. - Tamlyn Currin, JancisRobinson.com

Symbolising more than a century of Napa winemaking history, this is the flagship wine of Beaulieu Vineyard in the town of Rutherford, and a benchmark for the rich, concentrated Napa Cabernet style. Beaulieu vineyard was the first cult wine producer in the Napa Valley, founded in 1900 by Georges de Latour.

They focused on clonal selections (6, 4, 169, 7 and 8), which yield small berries with the high skin-to-juice ratio needed to make intense, long-lived wines. The fruit was handpicked and optically sorted once it arrived to the winery in order to ensure the highest quality selection.

These specifically chosen vines are deeply rooted in the well-draining alluvial fan soils of Rutherford, considered one of the finest regions in the Napa Valley for Cabernet Sauvignon.
