Backed up by an impressive 95 points by James Suckling, this vibrant Cabernet Sauvignon breaks the mould with its unique style – vibrant acidity, luscious fruit, and a hint of spice. Grown at 1400 feet elevation, it reflects the mountainous terroir in every sip. Uncover lively flavours of ripe blackcurrant and blueberry, accompanied by bright tannins and a vibrant freshness. This is a wine that sets itself apart from other Californian Cabernets, offering a unique level of complexity and character.
94/100 - Medium ruby-purple, the 2019 Game Trail Cabernet Sauvignon features scents of blackcurrant and blackcurrant bud, chocolate, star anise, iron and violet. Powerful yet fresh, the full-bodied palate has loads of grainy tannins and bright sparks of acidity highlighting its floral perfume. It has mineral-streaked fruits and a long, layered finish with singular wafts of incense. - Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate
95/100 - Lovely aromas of red- and blackcurrants, black olive and fresh mint. Medium-to full-bodied with fine, tight tannins. Layered with some pretty red and black fruits. Black pepper, nutmeg, coriander, black liquorice. An attuned mix of earth and fresh fruit. Great. Grown at 1400 ft elevation. Clone 6. Drink or hold. - James Suckling

Situated in Geyserville, Sonoma County, Marietta is one of a very rare breed left in California's wine scene - a family-owned and run property that puts value for money at the centre of everything they do. The result is that their wines, including this acclaimed Cabernet Sauvignon, are held in the highest esteem by restaurateurs, sommeliers, wine drinkers, and wine critics from across the entire spectrum. Since Chris Bilbro founded the winery in 1978, his objective was to produce the best 'Tuesday night wine' he possibly could. This involves sustainably farming old vineyards, fostering grapes that were historically used to slake the thirst of Italian immigrant families like the Bilbro family. Native yeast fermentations take place in concrete tanks, and after being passed through an old vertical press, the wines age in a combination of French and American oak barrels, a very small percentage of which are new. Chris's son Scot is now at the helm, and all the wines, including their exquisite Cabernet Sauvignon, continue to give the drinker a glimpse into what Californian wine used to be - rustic and generous, sun-kissed but fresh and balanced.
The Region
The Yorkville Highlands AVA, nestled in the majestic mountains of Mendocino County, shape this exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. With its high elevation, coastal influences, and temperature variations, this terroir sets the wine apart from typical California Cabs. The result is a captivating fusion of concentrated flavours and remarkable structure. Crafted from small, intensely flavoured berries with robust skins, this Cabernet embodies the essence of this mountainous region.
