France > Southern Rhône > Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Sourced from five different lieux-dits in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape region, this is an excellent example of classic Châteauneuf from one of the region's most unique and modern wineries. Organically farmed by sibling-duo Marie & Francois Giraud, the fruit used in this cuvée is picked from vines with an average age of 70-years-old. Composed of 60% Grenache, 35% Syrah, and 5% Mourvèdre, this red is full-bodied and ripe, yet retains elegance and levity with lots of vibrancy.

91/100 - Because many of the domaine's vineyards were devastated by April's frost, all of the grapes—including the estate's whites—went into a single cuvée of 2021 Chateauneuf du Pape. Some pretty garrigue notes accent the stewed cherries and raspberries on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is silky, framed by fine-grained tannins that linger easily on the elegant finish. Even leaving aside the vintage's challenges, it's an admirable effort. - Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate

90/100 - The 2021 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Tradition is all concrete-tank-aged, unwinding with delicate orange blossom, raspberry, strawberry, minty nuances and a dash of dried herbs. Smooth-textured and balanced by bright acidity, this is a highly enjoyable 2021 with the potential to gain more intricacy over time. A juicy conclusion rounds things up. - Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous

91/100 - Attractive violet, raspberry and bergamot nose – a very pleasing, scented style. Soft, mouthfilling, concentrated and generous; this has an inner core of freshness that makes for an enjoyably lifted style. Lightly grippy tannins. - Matt Walls, Decanter

On the nose, attractive notes of red cherry, kirsch, and squashed plum aromas.

On the palate, a nicely rounded mouth-feel; weighty, yet elegant; flavours of strawberry jam, raspberry, and cooked cherry fruit intertwine before a long, savoury finish.

Will improve with at least 4-6 years in bottle. Age for up to two decades.

Consider pairing with hearty, classic French meat dishes. Think cassoulet or venison stew.
