95/100 - The 2017 Rouget is a total knockout. Aromatically explosive, deep and just so compelling in its beauty, the 2017 has so much to offer. A rush of inky dark fruit, lavender, bittersweet chocolate, spice and licorice build as this sumptuous, exotic beauty shows off all of its allure. 91/100 - This has depth and juiciness, making it an enjoyable, bright, if a little austere Pomerol. Tasted twice, and both times it showed well, with slightly backwards tannins that need time in the glass to unfurl. They use a touch of whole-cluster fermentation at Rouget, which may be adding to this early tightness, but there is a lovely freshness alongside a sense of juicy bramble fruits. A small section of the vineyard was affected by frost, meaning there is no second wine, Carillon de Rouget, this year. The rest of the grapes were brought in between 20-29 September, with harvesters going through each plot several times to pick the fruit when ripe. - Jane Anson, Decanter
90/100 - Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Rouget has a pronounced nose of stewed plums, sautéed herbs, baked black cherries and mulberries with wafts of fallen leaves and unsmoked cigars. It has an elegant and complex bouquet of small black berries wrapped in scents of wood and smoke.
Medium-bodied in the front, it offers a round and firm palate full of juicy black fruit aromas underlined by a velvety and finely worked tannic line.
This Chateau is situated between L’Eglise Clinet and Le Gay. Already organic, it is in the process of becoming bio-dynamic. The Labruyère family from Burgundy are the owners here and aim to produce a charming and silky-textured Pomerol. The 18 hectares are planted with 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc.
