Luciano Sandrone is one of the Piedmont's most renowned producers, with his wines being amongst the first from the region to receive worldwide acclaim. The son of the local Barolo carpenter, Luciano grew the estate from a single small vineyard to over 20ha of vines in the Piedmont's greatest terroir. This - his superb Barbera d'Alba - is lively and bright, singing of rich black and red fruits alongside touches of spice, wood, and minerality.
93/100 - The 2019 Barbera d'Alba is pure seduction. Silky and plush, with lovely red berry fruit, spice and floral notes, the Barbera is wonderfully expressive today. Here, too, readers will find a much more restrained style than in the past. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous
On the palate, vibrant acidity keeps the wine balanced and light on its feet, with prominent flavours of black stone fruits and blackberries. Tannins offer structure without dominating the palate. Finish is long with notes of wood and minerals.
