France > Southern Rhône > Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Sourced from five different lieux-dits in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape region, this is an excellent example of classic Châteauneuf from one of the region's most unique and modern wineries. Organically farmed by sibling-duo Marie & Francois Giraud, the fruit used in this cuvée is picked from vines with an average age of 70-years-old. Composed of 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 5% Mourvèdre, this red is full-bodied and ripe, yet retains elegance and levity with lots of vibrancy.

93/100 - This complex Chateauneuf has stacks of cardamom, clove and hot dry earth character. Concentrated and medium- to full-bodied, this is a strikingly original wine for the 2022 vintage. With a little more depth at the harmonious finish, this would rate even higher. A cuvee based on grenache and syrah from organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. - Stuart Piggot, JamesSuckling.com

93/100 - Moving to the 2022s, the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Tradition is based on 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 5% Mourvèdre. Loaded with notions of black raspberries, roasted garrigue, spring flowers, and ground pepper, this layered, elegant, and straight-up gorgeous base Châteauneuf du Pape has fine tannins, medium to full body, and outstanding length. It shows the forward, layered, elegant style of the vintage nicely and will deliver the goods right out of the gate yet evolve nicely for 10-12 years. - Jeb Dunnuck

92+/100 - Wafting from the glass with aromas of spices, tobacco, licorice and dark wild berries, the 2023 Chateauneuf du Pape from Domaine Giraud is medium- to full-bodied, dense and sappy, with a deep core of fruit, velvety tannins and a long, balanced finish laced with gentle spice. This is a strong performance that should continue to gain in refinement and complexity with time in the cellar. - Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate

92/100 - Vinified from certified organic grapes, the 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Tradition unwinds with delicate orange blossom, raspberry, strawberry, licorice and dried herbs. Concentrated and expressive, ripe tannins and elevated flavor concentration mark the palate. Finishing with persistence, the 2022 comes across as quite focused. - Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous

On the nose, attractive notes of red cherry, kirsch, and squashed plum aromas.

On the palate, a nicely rounded mouth-feel; weighty, yet elegant; flavours of strawberry jam, raspberry, and cooked cherry fruit intertwine before a long, savoury finish.

Will improve with at least 4-6 years in bottle. Age for up to two decades.

Consider pairing with hearty, classic French meat dishes. Think cassoulet or venison stew.

Despite being a relative newcomer, Domaine Giraud makes some of the most charming and elegant wines in the Rhône Valley’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
