Chateau de Chambrun Lalande de Pomerol 2020

This Merlot-dominant blend comes from decades-old vines in the excellent value region of Lalande-de-Pomerol. Crafted by the always impressive team at Domaines de Moncets, Chambrun shines with delightful black fruit character and silky tannins reminiscent of those found down the road in Pomerol. 

90/100 - In the same style as De Moncets, the 2020 de Chambrun possesses a more complex bouquet with aromas of dark berries, flowers, spices, licorice and violet-like flavors. This is a medium-bodied wine sustained by velvety tannins and a juicy texture as well as layered concentration at the mid-palate. 91/100 - In organic conversion since 2018, well located in Néac just over the Pomerol border. This is well placed with careful extraction and some clear juice through the finish. Not quite the concentration of some of the Pomerols in this vintage, but this is still a good wine, with pleasure and careful delivery of enjoyable fruits. 90+/100 - I loved the 2020 Château De Chambrun, a blend of 90% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon. Darker berries, graphite, crushed stone, and just a kiss of flowers emerges from the glass, and it's medium-bodied, with good ripeness, building tannins, and a great finish. It has enough structure to warrant just a year or two of bottle age and should shine through 2032. - Jeb Dunnuck
