Winemaker Alexander Milner's passion is seeking out forgotten patches of old dry-farmed bush vines and restoring them to their glory. The AXLE Chenin's first vintage was only in 2018, but it was quick to receive critical acclaim and continues to get better and better every year. A wine of exceptional quality and intrigue, it's a must try!
17.5/20 - Remarkably deep gold for such a young wine. Full-bodied, toasty richness. Coddled-cream contours carved into curving swathes of flavour by dense, stony minerality. The fruit is baked-pear sweet, baked-banana creamy, laced with vanilla pod and frangipani and honeysuckle. Long peppery finish. It's magnificent, as it always is. But comforting, too. On the palate, flavours of mango, white peach, and lemon. The silky texture is balanced by an enlivening acidity.
