Regarded among the pioneers of the Grower Champagne movement, Francis Egly remains today one of its most authoritative voices. Joined by his daughter Clémence, they craft Champagnes of astonishing richness, power and remarkable capacity to age, predominantly from old-vine Pinot Noir grapes across the Grand Cru villages of Ambonnay, Verzenay and Bouzy.
This cuvée is a blend of Pinot Noir (70%) and Chardonnay (30%) from the same estate’s Grand Cru vineyards in Ambonnay, Bouzy, and Verzenay used for their Brut Tradition. However, it benefits from an even longer élevage, hence the name 'V.P.', which stands for vieillissement prolongé ('prolonged ageing'). As all Egly-Ouriet Grand Cru cuvées, this is entirely vinified in barrel and undergo a first aging on lees for almost one year before bottling, allowing the wines to clarify slowly — just as things were done in the past. Bottled in 2018, this is a blend of 50% 2017 harvest, 30% 2016 harvest, 20% 2015 harvest. Disgorged in 2025. Dosage 2 g/l.

96/100 - The NV Champagne Grand Cru V.P. Extra Brut smells incredible and is a fabulous wine with notes of cherries, orange oils, and apricots. Full-bodied, it has depth and richness with a more immediate feel, fantastic length, lovely silkiness, and delicate creaminess throughout. Made from 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay from the same Grand Crus, with 50% reserve wine, the base vintage is 2017, and it was aged seven years on the lees before disgorgement. - Audrey Frick, JebDunnuck.com
