Sobon's Rocky Top Zinfandel is sourced from one of few remaining pre-prohibition era Zinfandel on the estate, found on a ridge top dominated by cobble loam soils. A full-bodied wine of excellent depth, structure, and character, this is an outstanding example of California Zinfandel at its finest. Rich, satisfying, and velvety.

92/100 - Jammy and plump, this Zin shows dark cherry, licorice and cracked pepper flavors, ending with a rich, generous finish. Drink now through 2030. - Tim Fish, Wine Spectator

On the nose, inviting aromas of summer berries, liquorice, and a woodsy earthiness with hints of white pepper and allspice.

On the palate, heady aromatics and well-structured, smooth tannins lead to a rich, long, lingering finish.

Drink now - 2030.

Best enjoyed with food, considering pairing with spicy slow-cooked BBQ, grilled meats and sausages, or pepperoni pizza.

The Sierra Foothillls is, nowadays, something of a winemaking backwater relative to the famous regions closer to the coast (Sonoma, The Napa Valley etc), but at the start of California’s wine story it was the place to be. The ‘49ers had made their way to the foothills in the mid-1800s, prospecting for gold in Amador County and the surrounding area... Read More >>
