This is a rich and robust Pinot Noir from Maison Ambroise, a domaine based in the small village of Premeaux-Prissey just south of Nuits-Saint-Georges. All their vineyards are farmed organically. New oak is a common theme at this domaine, with big bold flavours being the trademark of the property.
Matured in 50% new oak, this Nuits-Saint-Georges from Maison Ambroise offers a lovely bouquet of dark cherry and crushed strawberry, with hints of dried flowers and forest floor emerging with time. The palate is medium bodied and well concentrated. After nearly a decade in bottle, the oak is seamlessly integrated and the once-muscular tannins have softened. Not a sensual or ethereal take on Pinot Noir, but a superb food wine - especially with robust fare such as braised beef, game, or mature cheeses.
