Hazendal Bottelary Hills Sauvignon Blanc 2025

Since Kiara Scott took charge of winemaking at the historic Hazendal estate, the quality and character of the wines have risen dramatically. Formerly assistant to the legendary Duncan Savage and head winemaker at Brookdale, Scott brings a sure-handed approach to her debut Hazendal Sauvignon Blanc. The wine is deliciously refreshing yet textural, with partial skin contact and oak ageing adding extra dimension: delicate smoky and savoury notes alongside appetising grip and volume. Beautifully gastronomic, this punches far above its weight, rivalling Sauvignon Blancs at twice the price.

17/20 - Smells like lime curd and tastes, unexpectedly, and rather gorgeously, of blood orange. [...] Some ripe gooseberry notes, with lovely tarragon and lightly roasted fennel seeds playing through the fruit. Sorrel notes. A real wash of cleansing, bracing, enlivening acidity.
