Elio Sandri's Barbera d'Alba is a gorgeous wine from Italy's Piedmont region. Grown amongst the hills of the region - which are typically planted to Nebbiolo - this Barbera is an intense ruby red colour characterised by alluring aromas of black currants, spice, and dark chocolate.
This wine is quite high in alcohol, crafted from low yielding vines which contribute to a rich wine with intense blackcurrant flavours.
There is crunchy acidity, hints of dark chocolate and supple tannins.
Pair with hearty meat dishes, gamy meats, or strong Piedmontese cheese.
Cascina Disa in Monforte d'Alba was a settlement of Monks of the Abbey of Breme at the beginning of the 15th century, and even then was used for wine production.
Since 1965 it has become the heart of the Sandri family winery, that continues the ancient wine-growing traditions of the area. Elio now makes his wines with the highest respect for nature and for tradition, eschewing industrial methods. The Sandri estate makes elegant wines that combine the feminine aromas of great Nebbiolo and Barbera with the masculine structure of a serious full bodied red wine.
