New to the range of Egly-Ouriet, 'Les Prémices' is a Chardonnay/Pinot Noir/Meunier blend from Trigny (equal parts). It was aged for 36 months on its lees before disgorging. Beautiful fresh precision on this bottling, light on its feet but with Egly drive and a salty finish. Very fine mousse, with a sense of fine detail to the white fruit, citrus, and freshly baked bread flavours. Delicious now but will age.
94/100 - Toasty and yeasty aromas dominate on the first nose, with swirling smoky intrigue. It’s full and rich on the tongue, with grilled brioche and creamy intensity paired with bruised apple skin and mashed apple flesh. Custard and viennoiserie characters give weight and body, while the finish perks up with bitter nut skin and greengage freshness. 93/100 - The NV (2020) Extra Brut Les Prémices is bold and expressive in the glass. Dried apricot, ginger, lemon oil and light exotic overtones confer notable flair throughout. In this release, Prémices is open-knit and engaging, qualities that will serve it well over the coming years. This is one of the best editions I can remember tasting. Dosage is 1 gram per liter.
