Best known for their excellent Muscadets, the Perraud family of Domaine des Cognettes have been making wine in the region for nine generations. Champions of organic viticulture and minimal-intervention winemaking, they produce a superb range of wines from Melon Blanc, while their small but characterful red production is also well worth seeking out.
Juicy and energetic, Cab a l’Ouest is a playful, easy-going take on Loire Cabernet Franc. Bursting with crunchy red fruit and leafy notes on the nose, it’s refreshing and joyful on the palate. Serve slightly chilled with charcuterie or light fare such as herbed poultry, lentil salad, or lamb cutlets with salsa verde.
Organically farmed, the grapes are hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts in vats for 12 days with 100% whole bunches. Aged for several months in vats before bottling with minimal SO2, unfined and unfiltered.
