Domaine de Trévallon is a cult wine estate with a near mythical status. It was Éloi Dürrbach who took on the monumental task of transforming his parents' property into one of France’s most fabled wine estates. Located in the Alpilles near the medieval fortress town of Les Baux-de-Provence, the 17ha property has been organically farmed since the beginning. Low intervention winemaking reigns supreme at Trévallon, where whole cluster, wild yeast ferments and used oak élevage create wines of an indelibly alluring character.
Exotic and rich cassis on the nose, layered with a little incense and pepper. The palate is dense and intense, driven by explosive black fruit at the core. A real powerhouse with mouthcoating tannins, richly textured and muscular. There is superb freshness to complement this power, bright acidity and flecks of violet and pepper make for a harmonious effort. Very long on the finish, with superb ageing potential.
The 2019 vintage started with a rainy winter. The rain continued until the beginning of spring, which was rather warm. The warmth persisted until summer, which was particularly hot with a peak of 43°C at the end of June. The early rains and vines' deep roots getting moisture in the limestone soils gave a balanced and fresh vintage despite the heat.
Harvest: 9th-19th September.
No de-stemming, no yeast additions or sulphur additions during vinification - only tiny amounts at bottling.
