Domaine de Trévallon is a cult wine estate with a near mythical status. It was Éloi Dürrbach who took on the monumental task of transforming his parents' property into one of France’s most fabled wine estates. Located in the Alpilles near the medieval fortress town of Les Baux-de-Provence, the 17ha property has been organically farmed since the beginning. Low intervention winemaking reigns supreme at Trévallon, where whole cluster, wild yeast ferments and used oak élevage create wines of an indelibly alluring character.

98/100 - Heart-fluttering aromas, the sort that genuinely make you stop mid-sentence and just stare into the glass. Cassis and blackberry form the core, but they’re wrapped in crushed mint leaves, tomato stem, rosemary and a glossy swirl of cherry coulis. The palate is a swooping aeronaut – an acrobat, a trapeze artist – swishing and swooping with effortless fluidity and high-toned freshness. There’s concentration here but absolutely no flab; everything is swept along in a torrent of acidity. The tannins prickle quietly in the distance, still quite firm, suggesting a very long future ahead. Thrilling to drink now, but clearly built to age. 60% Syrah, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon this year, instead of the usual 50/50 blend – the local wild boars helped themselves to a little too much of the Syrah, which they clearly preferred to the Cabernet!

Harvest: 12th-22nd September.

No de-stemming, no yeast additions or sulphur additions during vinification - only tiny amounts at bottling.

Pair with Confit duck and cranberries or slow roasted pork shoulder.
