93/100 - From a marginally cooler, damper year, the Syrah and Cabernet are already beginning to meld together. Tightly youthful, this needs either advance decanting or be allowed to age for a few years. Fresh, vibrant notes of blue flowers and dark berry fruit on the nose opens out to concentrated, ripe blackberries, the vibrant kick of sloes and powerful, bitter black chocolate tannins, finishing with aromatic notes of black pepper and sweet allspice. For several years, rainfall has been close to nonexistent in the summer at Trevallon. However, in 2021 the estate had 20 mm in July and 25 mm in August, small but beneficial rains for the vineyard. One of the coolest summers in recent years: average temperature of 24°C in July and August compared to 27°C in 2022.
The harvest started on 8th September with the Syrah and finished with the Cabernet Sauvignon on 21st September.
No de-stemming, no yeast additions or sulphur additions during vinification - only tiny amounts at bottling.
Drink now-2045.
Pair with Confit duck and cranberries or slow roasted pork shoulder.
