Galicia in northwest Spain is home to the red and white DO Ribeiro (meaning riverbank), set amongst the river valleys of Miño. It is here that Terra Minei lies, in a region that had successfully exported wines to international markets from the Middle Ages before succumbing to phylloxera and replanting with Palomino. A collective return to indigenous varieties such as Treixadura and Torrentés as well as a number of rediscovered indigenous reds has created a stir in the region of late.
Terra Minei was founded in 1956 in the village of Prado de Miño where the soils are sandy loam and granite and there is a mild microclimate aided by proximity to the Mino River. Operating as an estate winery with a few select growers they produce floral, precise, elegant white wines made from Treixadura, Torrontés, Godello and Palomino.
Grapes are harvested by hand and native yeast is used; fermentation is in temperature controlled stainless steel.
