WINERY HISTORY

Bodegas Marqués de Reinosa was founded in 1956, originally named the San Isidro de Autol cooperative winery. It now takes its name from Joaquín Garralda y Oñate, the Marqués de Reinosa, who was a key figure in the development of Rioja wine over a century ago. Having grown to cover an impressive 1000ha of vineyards in the DOCa Rioja, an ultra-modern winery was built in 2000 to accomodate one of Rioja's greatest co-ops.

VITICULTURE & WINEMAKING

The 1000ha of Marqués de Reinosa vineyards are primarily found in the river basins of the Ebro and Cidacos. Primarily composed of tertiary materials, these conglomerate soils are light and loamy, with low organic matter content and little fertility. In other words, the perfect terroir for grape growing.

Viñestral is a superb, value for money range of wines. The Crianza is made from 100% Tempranillo and matures in a mixture of French and American oak. Medium bodied and fragrant, with bright cherry-like fruit, it is produced in a relatively traditional way, with an emphasis on elegance over extraction.

Viñestral Blanco is made from the bodega’s best old-vine Viura, which delivers intense white fruit flavours with hints of flowers and fine herbs. A carefully timed period of maceration, followed by strict temperature-controlled fermentation, ensures the primary characteristics of the Viura grapes are retained.
