This ancient, dry-farmed mixed block next to the original Gibson Homestead has been producing grapes for over a hundred years. As a result of the vine age and miniscule yield, this wine is dark and intense. A heady mix of mulberry and lavender dominate the nose, with an edge of cinnamon stick. Broad, mouth-coating tannins are tethered to a core of smooth, sleek, powerful texture that is balanced by refreshing acidity. Delicious with hearty fare now, and built to age.
95/100 - Deep ruby-purple, the 2019 Gibson Block Syrah has a core of cassis and soaring violet perfume with accents of coffee beans, dark chocolate, aniseed and mint. oldest Syrah, Grenache, and Petite Sirah in California and yield an aromatic
powerhouse of sage, peppercorns, and black cherries. This unique wine
made from a brings new levels of density and depth. A touch of cedar
and cigar box round out the nose while the seamless mouth balances the
brightness of raspberry with bitter chocolate in a long lasting, tightly wound,
and seductively clean progression. Every bit deep and dark yet lifted and
inviting, this wine is as unique as the 130+ year old vines from which it comes.
