Founded by Austrian-born Manfred Krankl and his wine Elaine in 1994, Sine Qua Non produces some of the most profound, highly-prized and sought-after wines in the world - their waiting list for a direct allocation stretches well over 10 years.
As such, at Roberson Wine we're thrilled to now be the exclusive UK importer and distributor of the great wines from Sine Qua Non. Unapologetically decadent and powerful, yet harmonious and elegant, Sine Qua Non wines seem to possess the rare, magical quality of the greats — an addictive sensory overload that is hard to describe.
98/100 - The 2021 Syrah Eleven Confessions Vineyard is magnificent. Opulent and utterly seamless, it captures the more exuberant side of the estate through the lens of a cool growing season. Waves of ripe blackberry and vanilla-laced spice introduce a wine of dazzling texture and polish, while notes of menthol and eucalyptus emerge with air to add freshness. Plush and expansive, the Eleven Confessions Syrah is the bottling in the range that most vividly channels what many think of as the classic Sine Qua Non house style. [...] Drink 2026 – 2040. - Billy Norris, Vinous
100/100 -The mind-boggling 2021 Syrah Eleven Confessions Vineyard might be the finest young Central Coast Syrah I have ever tasted. It sports a deep purple hue and delivers a magnificent bouquet of ripe blue fruits, spring flowers, charcoal, black pepper, white chocolate, and savory bouquet garni nuances. It hits the palate with stunning purity and depth, offering full-bodied richness, a seamless and elegant mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, no hard edges, and remarkable length. It comes across as a more elegant expression of the 2004 Poker Face, with some of the layered complexity and polish of the 2010 Stockholm Syndrome. This is a sensational Syrah that should evolve effortlessly over the next 15-20 years.” - Jeb Dunnuck
The plot is planted mainly to Grenache and Syrah, with smaller proportions of Petite Sirah and white varieties, including Viognier. It is by far the coolest SQN vineyard with painfully low yields of around 1.5 tons per acres.
In good vintages Eleven Confessions is used to make a pair of single-vineyard wines under the Sine Qua Non label, one Grenache-based and the other Syrah-based. These special-release wines see considerably more time in barrel than the other SQN wines.
In the 2021 vintage, the blend is 85.7% Syrah, 9.7% Grenache, 1.3% Petite Sirah, 2.7% Gelber Muskateller and 1.3% Viognier. Vinified with 23% whole clusters and aged for 38.5 months in French oak demi-muids (52% new).
