Founded by Austrian-born Manfred Krankl and his wine Elaine in 1994, Sine Qua Non produces some of the most profound, highly-prized and sought-after wines in the world - their waiting list for a direct allocation stretches well over 10 years.

As such, at Roberson Wine we're thrilled to now be the exclusive UK importer and distributor of the great wines from Sine Qua Non. Unapologetically decadent and powerful, yet harmonious and elegant, Sine Qua Non wines seem to possess the rare, magical quality of the greats — an addictive sensory overload that is hard to describe.

98/100 - The 2021 Grenache Eleven Confessions Vineyard is a showstopper, a stunning wine of unimpeachable pedigree and finesse. For all its intensity, it remains cool-toned and remarkably graceful, with layers of red fruit, spice and lavender unfurling in a finish that fans out like a peacock's tail. Iron-tinged minerality lends striking complexity and underlines the wine's stature. The cool growing season endowed this Grenache with a sense of weightlessness and transparency. The 2021 is remarkably fresh and joyful after 38 months in barrel. [...] Drink 2026-2041. - Billy Norris, Vinous

100/100 - [...] it offers an extraordinary bouquet of sweet redcurrants, black cherries, Provençal herbs, licorice, kirsch liqueur, and ground pepper that’s absolutely captivating. One of the most intellectual Grenache releases from the Krankls, it’s anything but light or under-fruited, delivering a full-bodied, voluptuous mouthfeel, flawless balance, ultra-fine tannins, and a finish that simply doesn’t quit. This magical effort underscores the Krankls’ meticulous attention to detail, relentless work ethic, and sheer talent in both vineyard and cellar. I would not hesitate to place it among the greatest Grenache-based wines ever produced – 1990 Bonneau Réserve des Célestins, 2007 Giraud Grenaches de Pierre, 2007 Clos des Papes, 2010 Clos Saint Jean Deus ex Machina, and 2005 Barroche Cuvée Pure. It’s that good. Drink 2027-2042. - Jeb Dunnuck

Eleven Confessions is a 33-acre plot in Sta. Rita Hills, purchased by the Krankls in 2000 and the first of their estate-owned vineyards

The plot is planted mainly to Grenache and Syrah, with smaller proportions of Petite Sirah and white varieties, including Viognier. It is by far the coolest SQN vineyard with painfully low yields of around 1.5 tons per acres.

In good vintages Eleven Confessions is used to make a pair of single-vineyard wines under the Sine Qua Non label, one Grenache-based and the other Syrah-based. These special-release wines see considerably more time in barrel than the other SQN wines.

In the 2021 vintage, the blend is 86.1% Grenache, 8.5% Syrah, 4.4% Petite Sirah and 1% Viognier, with 55% whole clusters. The wine saw a longer elevage compared to the Distenta range, with 38 months in French oak demi-muids (just under 30% new).
