In the Hautes-Corbières, a mountainous region of the Languedoc found between Narbonne and Perpignan, Maxime Magnon found a treasure: ancient vineyard parcels in steep, rocky soils destined to be abandoned thanks to the creeping influence of co-ops. Since taking control of these rustic, old vine parcels in the early-2000s, Maxime has helped rehabilitate the image of the Corbières, working with his century-old vines to craft perfumed, alluring wines from local varieties. Campagnès is his top cuvée, a varietal bottling of Carignan sourced from centenarian vines grown at 200m of altitude. Full of fruit and spice, this velvetty and incredibly well-structured red is smooth, easy-drinking, and explosively flavourful.
On the palate, medium-full bodied yet refreshing, with fine-grained tannins, lovely structure, and superb balance between concentration and well-integrated acidity.
