In the Hautes-Corbières, a mountainous region of the Languedoc found between Narbonne and Perpignan, Maxime Magnon found a treasure: ancient vineyard parcels in steep, rocky soils destined to be abandoned thanks to the creeping influence of co-ops. Since taking control of these rustic, old vine parcels in the early-2000s, Maxime has helped rehabilitate the image of the Corbières, working with his century-old vines to craft perfumed, alluring wines from local varieties. La Bégou is one of his best known wines, a thrilling white that is simultaneously chiseled, mineral, complex, and luscious. A blend of 50% Grenache Gris, 40% Grenache Blanc and 10% Carignan Blanc, it sings of ripe stone fruits with an excellent acid drive and delightful texture.
On the palate, flavours of yellow apple, lemon pith, and white peach are accompanied by a deep, mineral-tinged core. Lean and taut with sublte grip and a stunning acidity, a touch of macadamia nut is present on the long, bright finish.
