Kutch Sonoma Coast Bohan Pinot Noir 2022

This Pinot from Jamie Kutch comes from Bohan Ranch, a 4th generation family owned farm. The Pinot Noir vines were planted in 1974 without rootstock. The vines were farmed dry land without any form of irrigation from the get go. This caused the vines to send their roots deep down into the Yorkville Laughlin soil in their search for water. Creating hard wearing vines that produce grapes with intense concentration and character.

94/100 - The 2022 Pinot Noir Bohan Vineyard is a dark, somber wine. Black cherry, gravel, spice, menthol and cloves all add to its decidedly somber personality. The 2022 feels a bit ripe and on the generous side, yet its balance is impeccable. This site, planted in 1972 at 1,400 feet in elevation, yields wines of distinction. 17+/20 - Complex, jewelly nose that really draws the taster in. Quite firm but the fruit stands up to the structure. Serious, long term Pinot (Nuits not Beaune). Lots of life here with quite a freight of (very polished) tannins. There's even a hint of veginess, but no suggestion of underripe fruit.
