Felton Road Central Otago Calvert Pinot Noir 2023

Characteristically Calvert Vineyard floral notes of rose petal and violets are complemented by hints of cola, cardamom and polished leather. A sweet core of red cherry through the mid provides an elegant backbone in this finesse driven wine. Being not excessively fruited, allows the typical Calvert mineral laden fine tannins to take centre stage, leading to a sustained and memorable finish.

95/100 - The 2023 Calvert Pinot Noir is abundantly berry driven on the nose, with ripe summer cherries, mulberry, forest floor, pomegranate molasses and peppercorns. In the mouth, the wine leads with firm tannins, which are laced with Szechuan peppercorns and sandalwood spice and brought into focus by acidity that skirts the edges of brisk but lands gently on juicy. This is a lovely wine, further compounding my affection for the wines of the 2023 vintage on the South Island. 13.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. - Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate

95/100 - There’s a real beauty to this wine. There’s lots of sweet cherry and raspberry fruit with nice texture. There’s lovely sour cherry on the finish with a nice tang and a hint of meatiness, but also some floral detail.
