It’s easy to miss the petite hamlet of Pernand-Vergelesses, hiding behind the bulk of the noble Corton hill. Yet this Côte de Beaune village, with its impeccable vineyards, is a treasure trove of refined Burgundy wines. This 1er Cru rouge from Domaine Delarche is bold and savoury, grown on Pernand's most important slope.

Domaine Etienne Delarche is amongst the most underrated estates in Burgundy. Using entirely natural and organic practices, this deeply artisanal domaine is an example of what great wine can (should) be: memorable and affordable. Their reds are spicy and refined, delicious from the moment they’re bottled to years later. Every taste is a reminder of the glory days of Burgundy, before the era of glitzy tasting rooms and eye-popping price tags.

This Pinot Noir was entirely hand-harvested, aged in no more than 30% new French oak between 12-15 months.

'Les Vergelesses' is a mid-slope 1er Cru vineyard, orientated southeast between 210-240m in elevation. These are old vines, with an average age of over 40-years-old.

Aromas of blackberry, liquorice, and violets jump out of the glass.
On the palate this Pinot is intense yet well-balanced, impressing with flavours of bramble fruit and a crystal-clear minerality.
This is an earthy and concentrated wine, yet simultaneously very refined.

Pairs perfectly with charcuterie or grilled pork sausages.
