Offering a fascinating mix between the fruit-forward intensity of California and classical, European-style structure, Piedrasassi Syrahs are true wines of place. This wine is sourced from the Sebastiano vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley appellation, found around 25km from Pacific and interplanted between Pinot Noir and Syrah. A wonderfully savoury Syrah just now entering its prime drinking window, expect a dense and fragrant bouquet of dark fruits, pepper, and smoked meats. Something in between a more typical California Syrah and a Côte-Rôtie, this wine is sure to please any lover of Syrah.
93/100 - The 2017 Syrah Sebastiano-Patterson is bold, punchy and forward, all of which give it tremendous appeal. Succulent red cherry, spice, blood orange and exotic floral notes abound. On the palate, flavours of smoked meats, rosemary, boysenberry, blueberry, blackberry, and black tea. Great energy and intensity on the lead-in to an extended finish with soft yet structured tannins and medium acidity. Beautifully structured.
