Mayacamas Vineyards is amongst the most renowned and iconic estates in the Napa Valley. Established atop Mount Veeder in 1889, the estate has remained remarkably true to its roots, with very few changes made to viticultural or winemaking styles since the 1950's. Their Chardonnay is a true classic, delighting with the vibrant intensity of California and natural restraint of mountainside fruit.
94/100 - The 2017 Chardonnay is a gorgeous wine that captures the phenolic, savory style that is so typical of these wines. Rich, layered and resonant in the glass, the 2017 has so much to offer. Time in the glass brings out a whole range of floral, herbal and citrus confit notes, but this is a Chardonnay built on a real sense of texture. The 2017 spent 22 months in oak and 6 months in steel. - Antonio Galloni, Vinous
94/100 - Very pretty, old-school style with sliced-lemon, apple and candied-lemon character. Creamy undertones. Full-bodied, tight and dense. Creamy yet tangy finish. Drink or hold. - James Suckling
93/100 - With a rich history, Mayacamas Vineyards is a pioneer on Mt Veeder, crafting a consistent signature style under Andy Erickson's guidance. The site where the fruit is grown is elevated above the fog line, and the vines average 40 years old. During the 2017 growing season this site experienced warm temperatures relative to surrounding areas. These conditions, plus extended elevage, have produced a memorable Chardonnay with notes of lemon custard and Buddha's hand citrus zest, complemented by a layer of nectarine blossom. Upon first sip, a refreshing and electric acidity instantly wakes the senses. Oak integration gives this wine stamina and a lengthy finish. - Eduardo Dingler, Decanter
Beautifully balanced with great freshness, minerality, and candied lemon aromas.
Mayacamas’s Chardonnay comes from the oldest vines on the estate grown high up on the mountainside.
Classic winemaking techniques are used; wines are aged in French oak for a year before bottling.
The wines are delicious now, but best drunk after a few years.
This is delicious on its own, but particularly good when paired with crab cakes.
