Leeuwin Estate, one of the founding wineries of the Margaret River region in Western Australia, has grown to become one of the great wineries of the antipodean world. Their Art Series highlights their most opulent and age-worthy wines, each bearing a painting from a leading Australian contemporary artist. This 2021 Shiraz shows incredible varietal definition with excellent length and clarity. A must-try.
91/100 - The 2021 Art Series Shiraz is fine and fresh. It has raspberry and strawberry, mulberry and blood plum, with very fine powdery tannins. It is not a hefty wine by any means (augmented perhaps by the conditions of the season). Perhaps it doesn't have the fruit weight for long-term aging, yet this makes for lovely "now" drinking. On the palate, layered, luscious, and concentrated. With a focus on blueberry and mulberry, the wine is defined by a freshness and drive stemming from natural acidity. Graphite and mineral threads lead to a polished finish.
Try pairing with roast duck breast, pepper-crusted steak, or grilled aubergine with tomato and feta.
