95/100, Editor's Choice - Subtle yet structured, this medium- bodied wine comes from the second vintage of Wells Guthrie's new winery DuPuis in Anderson Valley. It seems restrained and mineral-ish at first sniff, then opens up on the palate to offer captivating plum, raspberry and black-tea flavors wrapped in moderate fine-grained tannins. DuPuis is the latest venture of Wells Guthrie, a name synonymous with the California wine revolution, particularly his Copain label. In 2016, Wells embarked on a new chapter, drawn to a remote site in the lofty heights of Anderson Valley. Here, he established a 40-acre mountain-top estate, enveloped by redwood forests and graced with olive groves, with his 7-acre estate vineyard just steps from the winery.
