Dupuis is the latest project of acclaimed winemaker Wells Guthrie, the force behind the prodigious rise of Copain. Having sold up his stake and moved to the peaceful and isolated Anderson Valley, Wells has sought to strip his winemaking down to its bare bones, focusing on sourcing high-quality fruit which effortlessly expresses terroir and varietal expression.
This single-vineyard Pinot Noir is sourced from the Abel Vineyard in Anderson Valley, and is a truly captivating expression of California Pinot Noir. The wine showcases a high-toned aromatic profile with ripe raspberry and black cherry fruit, complemented by intriguing redwood-forest and baking spice notes adding complexity. On the palate it's medium bodied, smooth and rounded, with gentle tannins adding structure to a long finish. An effortless and beautifully elegant expression of Anderson Valley Pinot Noir.
Abel Vineyard is a cool-climate site in Anderson Valley’s “Deep End” - its north-western edge near Philo, California. The vineyard is shaped by coastal fog stretching inland through the Navarro River Canyon. Especially prized for Pinot Noir, it was originally planted in 1997 and now spans just over 20 acres.
Vines are planted on light, sandy, well-drained soils and weathered shale, with veins of iron-rich clay with contribute to the wine's minerality.
The wine was fermented with native yeasts and proportion of whole clusters, and aged in neutral French oak to preserve purity of fruit.
